Visitor privacy
This page describes the public website: what stays in your browser, what the site's analytics integrations are allowed to receive, and where contact leaves the site.

Site use
Shibari Atlas has no visitor accounts and no web form that stores a privacy request. If you choose to contact the project, the message is sent through your own email service.
- Browser storage
- The Lineage interface stores display filters, viewport preferences and whether introductory guidance has been seen in your browser. Sources can use session storage to return you to a citation after navigation. These values stay on the device unless the browser or an extension synchronizes them.
- Search and filters
- Search text and some visible filters can appear in the page URL so the view can be shared and restored. Do not enter private or sensitive information into search or filter fields.
- Cookies
- The application does not set its own advertising or account cookies. Hosting or analytics services may apply their own technical controls under their policies.

Analytics and hosting
The site includes Vercel Web Analytics and can load a self-hosted Umami tracker when that deployment is configured. They are used to understand aggregate page and interface use, not to build visitor profiles.
The providers describe their handling in the official Vercel Web Analytics privacy and compliance note and Umami's analytics FAQ.
The project's event wrapper is designed to exclude raw search text, email addresses, form contents, visitor IDs and arbitrary URLs. It sends bounded public context such as a section name, public record type or result count. Hosting infrastructure can still process routine request metadata needed to deliver and secure the site, subject to the provider's own terms and retention.
03
Research data is separate
The atlas contains public research records about people, relationships, places and events. A request about a record that describes you is different from ordinary visitor analytics.
Use the dedicated request guide for a correction, privacy change, removal or access question.
Structured public facts are released under CC0 where possible and original atlas prose under CC BY-SA 4.0. Private emails, messages and screenshots sent for a correction are not public source material and are not part of those public licenses.

External services
Every page requests its typefaces from Google Fonts unless the files are already cached. That request goes to Google and carries routine network metadata under Google's privacy policy.
Opening the Map automatically requests visual map tiles from CARTO. A tile request necessarily identifies the requested tile coordinates and zoom level, alongside routine network metadata. The map credits OpenStreetMap as the underlying geographic data source; its tiles are delivered through CARTO under CARTO's privacy policy.
Source records and contact links open third-party websites only when selected. Those services receive the request made by your browser and apply their own privacy terms. The atlas does not control their pages. An email request similarly passes through your email provider and Proton Mail.
