Studio Biederer / Éditions Ostra

Studio Biederer / Éditions Ostra, 1920s–1943, is a French production in the bakushi / kinbaku ecosystem.

Interwar Paris photography and publishing operation run by the brothers Jacques and Charles Biederer. A New York State Holocaust Claims Processing Office report records that they operated two Paris studios known for high-quality images in the 1930s; both were deported to Auschwitz and killed in 1942, and the businesses were liquidated in 1943. The Bibliothèque nationale de France catalogs Studio Biederer as the subject of Alexandre Dupouy's 2007 exhibition monograph Les éditions Ostra: l'âge d'or du fétichisme. A surviving portfolio printed from original glass negatives contains 33 photographs of female nudes and sadomasochistic poses, and its auction record identifies bondage among the brothers' 1920s–1930s production.
