Hojōjutsu, 1600s–1800s, is a Japanese context in the bakushi / kinbaku ecosystem.

Traditional Japanese martial art of rope binding, used by samurai and police to restrain prisoners. Developed during the Edo period. A direct technical predecessor to kinbaku.
