1974 Film Editorial note

School of the Holy Beast

Original title: 聖獣学園

Also known as Seiju Gakuen

Language Japanese

Norifumi Suzuki's convent melodrama follows a woman investigating her mother's death, combining a mystery plot with religious authority, repression and stylized punishment.

Film historian Jasper Sharp identifies it as a template for later Japanese convent fetish films, including Catholic Nun Rope Hell and Wet Rope Confession. Its imagery offers context for the screen history of restraint, rather than a documentary account of rope practice.
