Stephen Dwoskin's essay documentary combines interviews, archival material and voice-over to examine different experiences of pain. Nawashi Murakawa contributed Japanese rope work and interviews with two women.

Rope appears within a wider inquiry into bodily experience rather than as an isolated spectacle. Murakawa's production account also documents the specialist contribution behind this experimental documentary.
